Momo I Am – If you love those tiny pockets of flavours, this is the place you got to visit!😍

My experience summed up in 3 points:

Taste Rate : 4/5 (Sans the cheesecake).
Value for money : 4/5.
Staff Behaviour: 4.5/5

For a detailed review, please keep reading!😊

It’s situated just above the Arambagh in Golpark- Quite easy to locate, to be honest. The place has a seating capacity of about 20 heads at a time with an air conditioned room, bright yellow lights and brilliant view through the huge glass windows. Suggestion of the day – Do grab a table near the window on a rainy day. Thank me later.πŸ˜›πŸ˜‰

Coming to what we ate and how we felt:

1) Pork Bao @Rs.170.00 (4.5/5) : A bao is basically steamed chinese bread which is quite popular in Asian countries. Momo I am has definitely tried bringing in the aroma of Asian Cuisine and has mastered the art of making baos, it seems! Two ‘as soft as a cloud’ baos steamed to the point when they are delicate but not squishy and then these beautiful baos are stuffed with double cooked Barbequed Pork belly, fresh lettuce, strips of cucumber and plum mayo. One bite and the juices of the tender meat rolls down the bao. Oh! What a superb amalgamation of sweet and salty! Brilliant usage of textures too. The pork wasn’t exactly crispy though, but the other fresh greens were giving the crisp effect.

2) Drums Of Hell @Rs.180.00 (4.25/5) : 6 pieces of deep fried piquant chicken drumsticks all coated and drenched in an In-House made sauce. As per the name, it was supposed to be spicy but to be honest, it wasn’t too hot to handle rather a very sharp tinge of picante, hits you in your throat. Loved it.

3) Pork Hangover Momos @Rs.150.00 (4/5): 5 pieces of perfectly steamed juicy and succulent momos topped with a pepper relish, sriracha spicy mayonnaise and then layered with a creamy but firm film of mashed potatoes. Every component of the dish had a very distinct flavour of it’s own but on combining everything and putting it in the mouth, there’s a burst of flavours! It’s almost like Asian cuisine meets Italian. Wow! Pork Hangover momos are worth a try.😌

4) Tempura Fish @Rs.200.00 (4.25/5): 4 chunks of rectangular flaky fresh basa batter fried to perfection with minimal spices. The fish was fresh enough to not need any kind of taste enhancer. The outer fried coat was perfectly crisp and the inner fleshy fish was steaming hot and juicy enough to stimulate every taste receptor of a person. The mayo dips served were really nice and it was fun dunking them and getting involved in a beautiful tasty affair.

5) Chicken Shyafaley @Rs.160.00 at (4.5/5)– Juicy marinated perfectly cooked chicken kheema and bits of boiled egg whites, stuffed inside phyllo pastry kinda flaky wanton sheet and then deep fried to perfection! Doesn’t it sound amazing already? Well, it tasted even better.πŸ˜πŸ™ˆ

6) Cheese Cake @Rs.180.00 (1/5) : Momo I am, doesn’t have any sort of dessert in their menu but they do have Dessert Of the Day kinda system. So when I heard there was Cheesecake, I obviously had to lose my calm and order a plate. What came in looked heavenly but the moment I dug in, I realised that my taste buds that have already been tantalized with the brilliant food, were not very ready to just accept the obnoxiously bad flavours of the cheesecake. To be very honest, it was anything but cheesecake – ZERO FLAVOUR OF CREAM CHEESE!!! Oh dear lord. It was like a block of semolina cake with strawberry coulis and a scoop of vanilla icecream – these two components were pretty good and helped us gulp down the tasteless block of dessert.

India Restaurant – Visit this place to know what Heaven tastes like.☺

Visiting India Restaurant was another step closer to ticking off some of the best restaurants in town, from my bucket list.
Situated right next to Fancy Market (Kidderpore), the area is congested enough to drive you crazy when it comes to park your car.😏
The place remains full even on weekdays! We went on a Thursday night and the two floors were already jam packed with people still waiting for their turn. Since we had already booked a table earlier, it wasn’t much of a deal to grab a table for 9.
The ambience is really good with well lit lights and white and golden glossy decor.

Coming to what we ordered and how we felt about the food:

1) Mutton Kakori Kebab @Rs.270.00 (4.5/5) :
We couldn’t just dine-in in India Restaurant and miss the famous ‘Kakuri Kebab’ here. A plate consisted of 4 cylindrical long, soft, melt-in-the-mouth portions of well made kakori kebabs. The meat was so damn delicate with brilliant depth of flavours which would keep you thinking about what spices have been used to actually make it that delicious. Each bite was a stupendous journey of aromatic spices and distinct flavours in the mouth. Definitely recommended. 😍

2)India Restaurant Special Chicken cheese kebab @Rs.320.00 (3.9/5) :
Again a very well made portion of chicken reshmi kebabs topped and baked with generous amount of gooey cheese.πŸ˜‹
The kebabs were well charred and the cheesy layer was baked to perfection.
It was fantastic but I prefer the cheese kebabs at Arsalan, a tad bit more. πŸ˜„20170518_210818-02-01.jpeg

3) Chicken Chaap @Rs.180.00 (3.25/5) :
The chicken chaap failed to impress us..😏 Everything about the chaap was good but it lacked the tang or pungency that is required to illuminate a well made Chaap. The meat was very soft and well cooked, though.20170518_213645-01.jpeg

4) Laccha Paratha @Rs.35.00 (4/5):
To be very honest, no matter how unhealthy it sounds but I prefer the deep fried old-school Laccha paratha over the modern layered tawa grilled laccha paratha 😏 and, the paratha here was exactly the deep fried version that I love.πŸ˜„πŸ˜ƒ
Thoroughly took pleasure in the process of wrapping the thick fried doughy goodness around kebabs and dunking them in green chutney before eating it.πŸ˜‹ 20170518_210158-01

5) Chelo Kebab @Rs.370.00 (3.5/5) :
Chelo kebab happens to be an Iranian dish which has been indianised and served here. 3 delicate pieces of chicken tikka kebab, 2 pieces of chicken kakori kebabs, stuffed tomato, grilled onion and a fried egg served with buttered rice. 😍
While the chicken tikka kebabs were too good, the chicken seekh kebabs were a let down because they were more or less pretty tough to be called a proper seekh kebab.20170518_213510-01.jpeg

6) Mutton Awadhi Biryani @Rs.350.00 (4.95/5):
The briyani came in a traditional earthenware sealed with dough. On opening the seal and top of the pot, the ghee laden aromatic smell made us sniff till the spoonfuls of biryani were in our mouth. Oh! What an amazing biryani it was! Words cannot describe how beautiful it was in terms of flavour. Eat it, to believe and experience what it like to taste heaven.20170518_213254.jpg

7) Special Mutton Biryani @Rs.310.00 (4/5):
We did not want to restrict ourselves only to Awadhi Biryani, hence we ordered two more varieties – one being a normal biryani to just know the difference between their version and the other big biryani making houses of Kolkata. The biryani here was pretty darn good with soft beautifully cooked mutton, an egg and obviously the delicate potato.😍
The rice grains were independent and the biryani wasn’t very oily as well. Super liked it.😚.20170518_213220-01

8)Daryabadi Biryani @Rs.330.00 (4.25/5)
Daryabadi biryani was mentioned as a must-try on Zomato so we just ordered a plate of this, to be on the safe side and not get gifted with curses from around because this biryani was supposed to have a sweetish masaledar tinge to it with cashews, nuts and raisins. We were a bit apprehensive when we received a plateful of Daryabadi Biryani garnished with tomatoes (πŸ˜«πŸ˜’πŸ˜²) but soon after our tastebuds started dancing to the harmony of different flavours! I would ask Kolkata Biryani loyalists to stay away from Daryabadi Biryani because this was so much different than what a biryani usually is like but nonetheless, my father and I totally relished it till the last morsel of rice.😍20170518_214408-01.jpeg

20170518_214416-01

9)Firni @Rs.60.00 (3.85/5):
We wanted Shahi Tukda but ofcourse, given to my sad luck, it wasn’t available. With a heavy heart we ordered Firnis. The firnis were great, with a strong taste of rabdi but the firni which my aunt received tasted pretty different from the ones we had. The one my aunt had, tasted more like the ones from Lazeez, Arsalan, Shiraz. Otherwise, the firni was pretty good.20170518_220925.jpg

10) Fresh Lime Soda @Rs.60.00 (3.5/5) :
Tasted normal.πŸ˜„20170518_212204

The total bill was Rs.4310.00 for 9 people which is around 478.00INR/person which is quite reasonable given to the amazing food taste and quality.

Final Conclusions:-
●Food Taste Rate = 4.25/5.
●Ambience = 4/5
●Staff Behaviour = 4.5/5
●Value for money = 4.5/5

Definitely recommended!πŸ˜„
